The Juggle Update

Movement and Gameplay

Ivan & Rena butterfly aerial control reduced

In an attempt to improve and refine the multiplayer experience, the air control when performing a jumping directional attack for Ivan and Rena has been reduced, to match their dash attacks. This results in a minor loss of agility, at a significant gain of your opponent teleporting less during combat.

The underlying motivation behind this is that the client does not synchronise camera movements with other players, so turning the camera during a jump attack causes your character to teleport from where other player's clients expected you to be, to where you actually ended up. Reducing the amount of midair drift reduces the maximum size of this desynchronisation.

Player hitbox sync (juggling and wall-crashing)

Previously, if a player had eg. 400ms ping to the host, upon falling in hitstun in midair, they'd float above the ground for at least 400 additional milliseconds before landing, providing ample time to be hit again and juggled. This patch resolves this "float", which will make juggling significantly harder, and will align juggling other players to be of similar difficulty to juggling the host.

Similarly, there were occasions where a player being knocked-back past a pillar or wall corner would fly along and straight past the wall without stopping, only to teleport back to the wall when attempting to get up. This bug has also been fixed.

Minimum time spent on the floor reduced

Time spent on the floor is not fun or engaging and is too easily punished. The downtime after being knocked onto the floor has been reduced, and players can now roll earlier.

Double-butterfly polishing

Previously, when performing the Double Butterfly with Ivan or Rena, care had to be taken to not be holding the guard key when landing after performing a neutral aerial attack, as landing while guarding ended the swing early and cancelled the attack before the hitbox comes out. This has been refined to behave closer to the Butterfly, where the shift key can be held and the neutral aerial attack will not automatically be cancelled upon landing. This animation-cancel-prevention only occurs for the neutral aerial, so it does not impact any other combos or animation cancels.

Other gameplay changes

Client download

The client is now hosted on a proper CDN with base locations in 4 regions which should allow for faster and more consistent client patching.

This addresses concerns voiced by people in regions far away from the current download servers. It should no longer take several hours to download the client using a decent internet connection.

The appropriate region will be selected automatically by the game launcher. The base locations are in the following regions: NA (West), EU (West), OCE and APAC.

Player roles

In GunZ 2, different accounts can have different levels of access. The default is Player, but developers and community members are able to have elevated access via roles such as Community Manager, Game Master and of course Administrator. This update introduces role icons, which now reflect an accounts access via the buff icon area and allows all players to see a user's role.

A new role has been introduced for players that wish to support our development efforts, called Supporter. This role can be acquired by purchasing and using the "Account Supporter Status (30 days)" item, which adds the role for 30 days. This item can be purchased multiple times and the duration will stack, so you can refresh it early at no loss.

The Supporter role provides a +50% boost in Gold acquisition via match rewards in-line with how other boosters operate. Additionally, once per campaign match, supporters may revive themselves or a teammate for free via the Supporter Pass. This provides an effectively unlimited source of revive coins, for those that are talented enough to only die once a match. Specifically useful for practicing in Hard mode.
